Sending a Word or Excel file means the reader needs the right program, downloads a copy that is out of date tomorrow, and can edit or forward it freely. Often all you wanted was for them to read it. Sharing the file as a link gives them a page in the browser and leaves the original with you.
How it works
Upload a .docx or .xlsx (up to 5 MB) when you create a share, or from an AI tool connected through MCP. shareHub converts it into a web page and serves that page behind the access rule you chose. The reader opens a link; there is nothing to install and nothing to download.
What happens to a Word document
Headings, lists, tables and images come across, in a clean reading layout. Tracked changes, comments and headers and footers do not, so accept or remove them before you upload if the reader should not see them. Open the converted result and check it before you send the link.
What happens to an Excel workbook
- One table per visible sheet. Number and date formats are kept and merged cells keep their spans.
- Formulas show their last saved value. Nothing is recalculated, so save the workbook with the numbers you want the reader to see.
- Charts, conditional formatting and hidden sheets do not come across. A hidden sheet is reported to you instead of being dropped without a word.
- Very large sheets are refused, not cut. A spreadsheet that large is closer to a database than to a document; split it and share the sheets separately.
Decide who reads it
A price list or a budget is rarely for everyone. Limit it with an email code or a PIN, give it an end date (90 days by default, 365 at most) and close it the moment it should stop being visible. Public, PIN or email code compares the options.
Update it without a new file
When the numbers change, upload the new version to the same share. The link stays the same, so you do not send another attachment, and readers always see the latest version. If you upload exactly the same file again, shareHub recognises it and does not open a new version. See updating without a new link, or the list of formats and limits in the developer documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Does the reader see my formulas?
No. They see the values that were saved in the workbook. The conversion does not run formulas and does not show them.
Can I share an older .doc or .xls file?
shareHub accepts .docx, .xlsx, PDF, HTML and Markdown. Save an older file in one of those formats first.
What is the size limit?
Up to 5 MB per uploaded file. The converted page must also fit the size limit for shared pages; a file that does not is refused with a message rather than shared broken.
