You send a proposal on Monday. On Tuesday the pricing changes. By Wednesday three people have a file and none of them is sure which one is final. The fix is not a better file name; it is a document whose address does not change when its content does.
One address, many versions
When you publish with shareHub you get a link. Publishing a new version replaces the content at that same link. Anyone who opens it afterwards reads the current version, and you keep a version history so you can see what you published and when. Nobody has to be sent a second link, and nobody is left reading the old one.
What a new version does to “viewed”
shareHub tracks whether the current version was opened. When you publish a new version, that status starts again. This is deliberate: a person who opened the earlier proposal has not seen your latest changes, and counting them as having seen it would send you into a follow-up call with the wrong picture.
The dashboard shows the viewed status of the current version, the time of the first and last view, and the total count. See what “viewed” really means for the details and the limits of the signal.
Start from the file you already have
You do not have to write HTML. shareHub accepts Markdown, HTML, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PDF. Word, Excel and PDF are converted into a page that opens in any browser, with no app to install. The conversion has limits, and it is better to know them before you promise a recipient something:
- Word: comments and tracked changes are not carried over.
- Excel: formulas arrive as their last saved result and are not recalculated; charts and hidden sheets do not come across.
- PDF: at most 20 pages and 5 MB. The pages keep their layout and the text stays selectable, but a scanned PDF remains an image, because there is no OCR.
Check the converted page before you publish it. The same applies to the file you publish at an existing link.
Every link has an end date
A link that lives forever is a document nobody remembers sharing. Every shareHub link has an end date: if you do not choose one it is 90 days, and the longest you can pick is 365 days, when you create it or when you extend it. The limit is refused rather than quietly shortened, so you learn it exists at the moment you ask for more.
Update from where you work
You can replace content from the dashboard, from an AI tool connected over MCP (update_markdown, update_share, update_by_ref), or from your own code with PUT /api/v1/shares/{id}. All three create a new version at the same URL. The details are in the developer documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Does the link change when I publish a new version?
No. The new version is served at the same link, and the viewed status for the current version starts again.
Which files can I publish?
Markdown, HTML, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PDF. Word, Excel and PDF are converted to a page that opens in the browser.
Can a link stay open forever?
No. Every share has an end date: 90 days by default and at most 365 days when you create or extend it.
Turn your document into a live link and decide who can open it.
